Something I see a lot when it comes to designing weddings is taking 2 very different design styles and, well, marrying them. Christine and Ben came to me with a lot of really cool inspiration. Think Chinese take out signs, Tokyo neon, anime art, and video game design. However, they emphasized wanting the day to still feel classic New York and to reflect this essential part of their love story. Where I come in to play is taking these ideas and making them into a personalized and unique design. On the day of, I really felt like we nailed their classic meets edgy Tribeca Rooftop wedding.

Ben and Christine chose Tribeca Rooftop for the clean lines, the skyline views, and the amazing skylight over the dance floor. Since the venue is a bit of a clean slate, we really got to have fun bringing in elements that personalized it. For the most part, we kept to a strict all white palette- but brought in pops of green and gold to add personality. Christine mentioned that while she loved the sleek all white look, she wanted the flowers to be unique still. We worked with Joi Blooms to incorporate unique stems and textures to liven up an otherwise classic look.

The real star of the show was the paper good design throughout the day. We spent months with Schuyler at Polk Paper designing intentional and fun paper goods for every step of the process. She took all of those fun elements like anime art and neon signage and translated it into a sleek pop. A custom illustration of the couple in anime style was used for the table numbers. Menus served as a bold pop of green against the white tablescape. Signage around the room kept the same aesthetic, infused with Christine and Ben’s sharp wit. My favorite touch, however, was their chili oil escort cards. Schuyler made custom labels to go on bottles of their favorite chili oil to show guests to their seats. We love a functional favor!

Guest experience was top of mind throughout planning. Seeing as New York was the backdrop for their love story, they wanted to bring touches of the city in. During the first half of the day, Boat Band serenaded guests with sweet New York jazz music. For cocktail hour, guests got to soak in the skyline views while enjoying custom cocktails. At the end of the night, we ordered in their favorite late night snack- Joe’s Pizza. Complete with a variety of hot sauces to eat “Ben and Christine style”. As an added touch, we set up a Mario Kart station for guests who weren’t big dancers- as this is one of their favorite pastimes. It was a huge hit!!

At the end of the day, we had such a blast designing this NYC wedding infused with all the things that make Ben and Christine, well, them. It’s couples like them that make my job so much fun! Congratulations to two of the coolest people I know.
