One of my favorite parts of being a wedding planner is that I get to help make weddings so personal. I left the corporate world because I felt that the work I was doing wasn’t really making an impact. Things were pretty for the sake of being pretty. But with Yizary and John’s wedding, every single element was so personal and so beautiful. We started the day off at the Williamsburg Hotel getting ready and glamming up the wedding crew. All of Yizary’s wedding party was so much fun and there were lots of smiles and giggles all morning.
I know it sounds like a line, but all of my favorite weddings have had rain on them. This one was no exception. It was rainy and snowy and cold all day! It’s safe to say we all warmed up pretty quickly after seeing Yizary and John’s radiant love for each other.
The wedding took place at the stunning MyMoon restaurant- home to some of the best wedding food I’ve ever had! Both Yizary and John’s families are Dominican, so the Spanish tapas style menu was perfect for them. The ceremony took place on the deck, where we honored Yizary’s mom and John’s dad who were watching from heaven with an honor bouquet and boutonniere on their chairs. Yizary’s mom absolutely loved flowers, so we made sure to honor her throughout the whole day with the most stunning flowers from Flower Witch. Yizary wanted a bright, bold color palette full of her favorite color- magenta. Kate from Flower Witch absolutely nailed the vision and created a beautiful day that honored Yizary, John, and her mom.
After everyone wiped their happy tears from the ceremony, guests headed inside for cocktails. Before we knew it, it was dinner time. MyMoon offers a family style dinner- which really helped the event feel more intimate and inviting. We flipped the deck from the ceremony into the dessert bar. Yizary and John served a stunning pressed flower cake baked by Bueno Cakes + Cupcakes and designed by Flower Witch, along with tres leches cake for guests. Yizary and John had a custom Funko Pop cake topper designed that was also featured on their favor bag cookies.
Of course, no reception is complete without dancing- especially for Yizary and John’s group! DJ JennLove kept the dance floor packed all night long, and when it came time to the hora loca, (a Spanish tradition meaning “crazy hour”)- everyone came ready to go. We set up a table full of light up accessories to get the party started, including light up sunglasses, flower crowns, and glow sticks. The whole venue was lit (both literally and figuratively!). When guests needed a break from dancing, they flooded the photo booth from Boujee Booth to take tons of photos.
At the end of the night, we had favor gift bags for guests to take home to help them recover. They included a thank you note, those custom FunkoPop cookies, travel size Advil, a bag of tea, and a honey stick. The perfect send off for the perfect day.
I truly had the best time working with Yizary and John to help them plan the perfect day for them. John and Yizary met in college and he told her on multiple occasions- “some day, I’m going to marry you!” It was an honor to witness John’s manifestation come to life. Congratulations to Yizary and John!
