As seen in Bustle
One of the things I love most about NYC is the sense of community. I’m part of a local Upper West Side community Facebook group, where Arielle found me. When Arielle posed the question, “Do you also plan proposals?”, I immediately said yes. I couldn’t wait to work with her! I had no idea how much I would love being an NYC proposal planner. Arielle wanted to propose to her partner, Kristina, in a meaningful way after being together for over 8 years. Kristina’s favorite place is Coney Island. She also loves Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwiches, good champagne, and purple tulips. I took these components in hand and designed the sweetest little beachside picnic.
Once we had designed the picnic, we shipped all of the design elements to my apartment so that they would be hidden from Kristina. I’m by no means a florist, but I was pretty proud of my arrangement. I created it with Trader Joe’s tulips, white roses, and some perfectly placed rainbow baby’s breath- my little homage to Pride month. I also had bacon egg and cheese sandwiches delivered to the beach, where they stayed warm thanks to my leftover hand warmers from the past winter season. After everything was set up, our incredible photographer, Francesca Lee Photography, got into place and took some detail shots while we waited their arrival. It was really important to Arielle that their photographer was able to capture diverse couples and made them feel comfortable. Francesca was the perfect fit!
But Amy, how did you guys get Kristina to come to Coney Island without being obvious?
This is a morally questionable skill to have, but I’m pretty crafty when it comes to creating fake back stories. In order to convince Kristina to come out to Coney Island early in the morning on a random Saturday- we had to come up with a good reason. Kristina doesn’t use Facebook, so Arielle told her there had been a model call for a fashion brand on the community group looking for real couples, and since “it was taking place on Coney Island”, she signed them up. Kristina bought it- to the point of seeing the set up and Francesca and STILL not putting two and two together until Arielle was down on one knee!
Being a part of this special day was one of the highlights of my year. Arielle and Kristina are just the sweetest. I feel so honored that I got to work with them both and make this a beautiful memory for them. Congratulations Arielle and Kristina!
