Ashley and Dan’s Brooklyn Botanic Garden wedding was pure joy. I feel so blessed as a Brooklyn wedding planner to get to meet such wonderful people. Ashley and Dan were no exception. From start to finish, the whole day exuded joy, love, and fun. We started the day getting ready over at the One Hotel Brooklyn. The playlist on repeat included Y2K throwbacks, Broadway hits, and Hannah Montana. A mandatory dance party set the tone for the day.
Ashley had the most STUNNING details, so Karina Mekel and Hazel Dust Studio spent a good while styling all of the gorgeous elements. Before we knew it, it was time to head off to the gardens for Ashley and Dan’s first look. It sounds like a line, but all of my favorite wedding days have had rain on them. In between afternoon showers, we managed to get some breathtaking portraits of the bride and groom. Thankfully I came prepared with my favorite “Love is in the Air” umbrella. The two lovebirds looked like SUPERMODELS. I can’t get over how angelic Ashley looked even through tons of humidity and lots of happy tears.
The rain subsided just in time for their ceremony out on the Cherry Esplanade. Yellow Bow Floral created the most gorgeous grounded ceremony installation, and it felt like an extension of the garden rather than a competition. The cheers after they said “I do” could be heard throughout the entire property.
On your wedding day, it’s easy to get a bit flustered and distracted with so many moving pieces. However, Ashley and Dan were the most chill, laid back couple I may have ever seen on a wedding day. In fact, the two of them constantly were checking in on myself and the other vendors to make sure WE were good! During cocktail hour, Ashley kept grabbing appetizers and insisting that we all try the food (can confirm, it was amazing). Dan would check in to make sure we had gotten a drink and were comfortable.
My favorite part of the evening, however, was during their cake cutting. Ashley couldn’t get over how great their cake turned out, and she insisted that everyone within ear shot try it. Guest after guest came over and got fed a piece of cake by the bride herself. It was a wedding first for me and the rest of the vendor team, and it just goes to show how selfless Ashley and Dan are.
The reception took place in the effervescent Palm House- which somehow felt even dreamier with a bit of fog on the windows from the rain. Ashley and Dan entered in to a remix of “Shallow” by Lady Gaga, and had the entire wedding party join them on the dance floor. Guests spent the rest of the night eating, laughing, singing and dancing. It was so fun getting to enjoy a live band in this space and Hank Lane killed it as always.
Being the fashionista she is, Ashley had a secret dress change planned for after dinner. She shimmied out to “Dancing Queen” and truly lived up to the name. Towards the end of the night, guests were treated to an *iconic* rendition of “Mr Brightside” by the bride and groom themselves.
Overall, Ashley and Dan’s wedding was one that I will never forget. From their gorgeous details to their even more beautiful hearts, it was a perfect celebration for the perfect couple. Congratulations Ashley and Dan!
