For Julia and Andrew’s wedding day, they told me they wanted a minimal, yet playful day to celebrate their love. One of my favorite parts about this job is getting to find personal touches to delight and surprise guests. For these food lovers, we worked hand in hand to design a day full of their favorite bites. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.

A Warm, Summery Color Palette

When it came to the design of the day, Julia told me she loved minimal and hand drawn touches. Rule of Thirds was the perfect place to host the celebration. With the minimalist wood paneling, the gorgeous skylight, and the delicious food- this venue checked off all of their boxes. We had a fairly small group of 90 guests, so we did a partial buyout utilizing the back event space and the outdoor cocktail space. Both Julia and Andrew wanted to bring in some warm, inviting summer colors, so we worked with Joi Blooms for their floral design. Their vibrant yet soft color palette complimented the space so well, and really shined as the sun set outside. We also worked with Paige Tuzee Designs for all of our paper goods and day of signage- featuring hand drawn food sketches and even a sweet illustration of their pup, Twix!

A Food Lover’s Dream

As I mentioned earlier, Julia and Andrew LOVE food. So of course, we had to ball out on all of their favorites. One of my favorite touches was a dessert crawl with stops at their favorite sweet spots throughout the city. We worked with Tokyo Taiyaki for a soft serve taiyaki station. Lazy Sundaes provided a boba tea bar with strawberry matcha boba and classic brown sugar milk tea. Then, we had an assortment of bite sized treats from Rice to Riches, Stick With Me Sweets, and Lysee. And of course, what is a wedding without a wedding cake? We went to their favorite bakery, Buttercup Bake Shop, for their wedding cake. As a late night treat, Andrew and Julia gathered their favorite ramen cups and we set up an instant ramen station for a portable and delicious energy boost. We also had custom cookies from Grippy’s Cookie Co which doubled as escort cards!

I’m always such a fan of an outfit change, and Julia’s second dress was just perfect. She changed in time for dinner and then removed the over skirt to dance the night away. Everyone had an amazing time dancing to DJ Allison Kinney and exploring the different stops on the dessert tour. It was such a joy working with Julia and Andrew on their wedding day. Congratulations to you both!
