A Vibrant, Chic Wedding Proposal in DUMBO

When I’m not planning weddings, occasionally I get to plan proposals. This one was extra special though, as it was for my best friend, Abby! I’ve known Abby since college and have seen her through so many different phases of life. From working together at a Kate Spade in Savannah, GA, to chasing our dreams together in NYC. It was an absolute honor to work with her fiance, Kyle, to plan their DUMBO wedding proposal.

Setting the Stage

Kyle had mentioned to me that he envisioned proposing by the water, and suggested The River Cafe as the location. Right outside the cafe is this gorgeous and secluded garden that was the perfect backdrop. We went together to scout out the exact path to get her in position and where he wanted to land so that it could be seamless. All that was left at this point was getting her there.

Abby is a social media influencer, which came in handy for concocting the “scheme”. Kyle and Abby had been custom designing her engagement ring, so she knew this was coming but had no idea where or when. I knew she would want to look her best for the occasion, so I reached out to Nuuly to see if they would want to be a part of this. She has previously modeled for them, and they adore her.

It was a swift “yes!” once I told them about our plan, and they quickly got to work on creating a mock invitation for an “influencer dinner” at The River Cafe. I worked with them to curate a box of options for her to choose from to wear, and they sent off the rental box and invitation. Since she had worked with them already and they went all out to help make this all seem real, she was totally convinced.

Putting it All Together

Luckily for Abby, her best friend is a proposal planner. I reached out to my flower friends, Rosehip Floral, to create a beautiful bouquet inspired by Abby’s colorful and quirky persona. Unknowingly, she happened to select the dress in the Nuuly box that best matched these flowers! I also enlisted the help of my media friends Francesca and Ryan to help capture the moments. They are the absolute best and did such a great job!

And of course, I had to be there day of to see it all through. Since I have pink hair, Abby would instantly spot me if I was in view during the proposal, and I wanted to make sure she could have the moment undistracted. With the help of a cheap Amazon wig, I was able to stay incognito and totally trick her while I helped get Kyle the flowers and make sure everyone was in position.

I absolutely love love, and getting to see my best friend so happy with the man of her dreams is a dream come true. It was truly the biggest honor to help orchestrate this DUMBO wedding proposal for them, and I can’t wait to create their perfect wedding day. Congratulations Abby and Kyle!
