Long Island City Wedding- Poppy + Lynn

When Jamie and Jackie reached out to me, they described their vision as “A big, fat, Jewish, lesbian disco wedding”. And as to be expected- I was instantly hooked. These two were so destined to end up together, and it was an honor to help coordinate their day.

Their story starts back in 2020 where most modern love stories do, Hinge. They matched and chatted for a bit, but life got busy and things sort of fizzled. Fast forward to that fall when Jamie saw an Instagram account (@hotmessbianhotties) posting personal ads for a $5 donation. She thought “why not?” and thought of it as something fun to do to support a good cause. Jackie ended up seeing it and slid into her DM’s to chat about the book she was reading, “All Adults Here by Emma Straub”. They had their first date on October 6th, 2020, and the rest was history.

The Wedding Vision

From the moment you first interact with Jackie and Jamie, you’ll know that the following things are innately “them”. Books, disco, Mamma Mia, Gilmore Girls, and NYC. So they really honed in on these things to make the wedding day feel extra personal to them. They both love color, so we brought in tons of color and vibrancy in their flowers to liven things up. To nod to their love of books, they brought in a mix of their favorite modern books, along with some hand bound books from Jamie’s great grandfather. Jackie DIY’d their library card escort cards and table numbers which were a huge hit!

Special Touches

One of my favorite parts of being a Long Island City wedding planner is getting to infuse the day with personal touches. Jamie and Jackie had SO many personal details that were so sweet. Jamie’s father passed away before their wedding day, so Jamie walked down the aisle to What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. They danced to that song at Jamie’s bat mitzvah, so it was an extra special nod to him. Speaking of family, Jamie’s cousin baked their wedding cake! It was a delicious four tier, lambeth style cake with 3 different flavors.

For guest favors, they opted to have a book bar by The Ripped Bodice. The Ripped Bodice is a queer owned, romance bookstore located in Brooklyn that is perfectly on brand for the two brides. They worked with the owner, Leah, to pick out a selection of their favorite books, and guests could come up and pick out one to take home with them at the end of the evening. This was a HUGE hit and such a great way to infuse their personality into the wedding.

As I mentioned earlier, NYC is at the heart of their love story.

Besides getting married in the neighborhood that they met and fell in love in, they wanted to incorporate nods to their favorite city. In true NYC fashion, they had a vintage cab chauffeur them around during portraits after getting ready. They also had the vintage cab stay stationed outside the Long Island City wedding venue for guests to pose with. During cocktail hour, we also had a Jewish deli inspired station filled with the regular fixes- pastrami, knishes, pickles, soft pretzels, etc. To end the night, they also had a classic Mister Softee ice cream truck come by for dessert. There were also classic black and white cookies passed around- as is custom for any true NYC wedding. Guests were filled with nostalgia and delicious treats!

At the end of the day, this wedding was filled to the brim with everything that makes Jackie and Jamie so special. It was such an honor to get to celebrate these two stunning humans and their love. Congratulations lovebirds!
