A Breathtaking Rooftop Proposal at The Skylark

Working as an NYC proposal planner was something I hadn’t expected, but it has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Kayla reached out to me to help her plan the perfect proposal for her then boyfriend, Nick. She was surprising him with a trip to NYC for his birthday. It was their first time visiting the Big Apple! I was so excited to help plan the most romantic and memorable moment for them.

Kayla had only a few requests in mind: a private rooftop, red rose petals, and some champagne. She was proposing to him, and told me that she wouldn’t be going down on one knee, and instead was writing him a letter. I LOVED this modern twist and how intimate the moment was going to be. As soon as she told me she wanted a private rooftop with skyline views, I immediately thought of The Skylark. They are my FAVORITE rooftop in Manhattan, and one of my favorite places to work at as an NYC proposal planner. Thankfully, we were able to arrange a time for it to be completely private. The Skylark team was wonderful enough to arrange for champagne and a reservation in the lounge.

To help make the proposal feel a bit more personal, Kayla had me print out a few reasons why she loved Nick. We placed them on the walls leading to the proposal spot. I thought this was such a sweet touch and it was so fun watching them read along the way. The original plan was to have a trail of rose petals from the door to the designated spot on the roof, but the wind was CRAZY! Despite our best efforts to put the rose petals out just minutes before they arrived, it ended up being more of a rose petal dusting. Thankfully, the Skylark and the NYC backdrop were quite the romantic scene on their own.

Jonica from Khaki Bedford Photo was the perfect fit to capture the occasion. Kayla and Nick got a mini couple’s session around the rooftop after Kayla popped the question. The giggles and love were infectious. It was such an honor getting to be a part of such an important moment. Congratulations Kayla and Nick!
